Description

Despite of viewing Napoleon as an "antichrist," rather than rejecting to come terms with France, Gustav submissively accepted the treaty and allowed Sweden to follow the Continental System, fearing that Napoleon had promise to Russia that in case if Sweden rejected the treaty, which refuses to stop helping Great Britain (close ally of Sweden) to fight against the French military, then Russia surely will be given a free hand to conquer Finland from Sweden. It would've been a deadly cost for Gustav and his government, so in that case, With Sweden accepted to follow the treaty, Russia and Denmark-Norway will not declare war on Sweden, (unlike in are timeline). This would mean Finland likely would have been still under the Swedish rule, and Gustav would’ve remained in power and instead of facing a rampant coup by the Swedish army. Without the coup against Gustav, French marshal, Jean Bernadotte would not have step in line to the throne, so instead of Oscar I (Bernadotte's son), it would be Gustav’s son Prince Gustav of Vasa to be next in line to the throne within later years. The House of Holstein-Gottorp would have still continue to have influential power of Sweden.

In meanwhile in Great Britain, since Sweden would no longer aid the British military to fight against Napoleon's armies, the British government were in deeply outrage and decided to raise boycott against Swedish goods and increase the blockade in the North Sea in order to prevent any by-passing Swedish, Danish, and French fleets. However, despite of growing tensions between Sweden and Great Britain, because of their financial inability to support the British military and a lack of supporting ally, the UK government decided it would be best not to launch further invasion in the Scandinavian shores, fearing that might lead to ruinous financial and political consequences.

Within few years after Sweden joined the Continental System, a system that sought to enlarge and enforce the blockade against British commerce. This however would ironically led to the collapse of the peace on the continent. In Russia, Emperor Alexander I realized that because of the blockade, it was hurting the Russian economy. This eventually led to the failures of Franco-Russian alliance, and
paving the way for Napoleon's invasion of Russia by 1812. Gustav then now had his chance to break away from a diplomatic ties with Napoleon and reset the relationship with Russia and Great Britain. With the alliances with Great Britain and Russia, Sweden had a clear advantage to outmaneuvered Napoleon’s armies. As for Denmark-Norway however, it was a different story. Unlike Sweden, Denmark-Norway was a key supporting ally of Napoleonic France. Believed that they could help Denmark-Norway to fend off against their Swedish rival, but within later years, Napoleon military might was falling apart, leaving Denmark-Norway defenseless. Since Gustav really did wanted to dominate Denmark by taking away Norway all away from the Pomeranian War (1805-1810), Sweden have launched an invasion of Norway and Copenhagen, Denmark (while fighting along side with the British navy.) After a decisive victory over Denmark-Norway, Gustav introduced a treaty that a small chunk of Norway should be merge with Sweden, and demanded Norway and Denmark to become a sovereign states under a Personal Union of Scandinavia (which would be ruled under The House of Holstein-Gottorp). This give Sweden to slightly re-gain there imperial power. Gustav idea of this treaty was slightly similar to Jean Bernadotte's United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway in are timeline.
